I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
of your despatch No.115 of the 17th of March, 1937,
enclosing a letter from the Admiralty in connection with the site of the proposed new Naval Hospital at
Hong Kong, and to inform you that there is no objection
on the part of this Government to the renewal of the
Admiralty option on the site for two further periods
of one year, from the 1st of April, 1937, and again from the 1st of April, 1938, subject to the proviso
set out in paragraph 2 of the letter dated the 22nd
of April, 1933, from the Admiralty, a copy of which was 10/13469/33enclosed with despatch No.164 of the 2nd of May,1933,
from Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister (now Viscount Swinton).
2. The delay in replying to your despatch
is much regretted.
It was due to the discussion by
this Government of compensation terms for existing
sites and buildings.
3. The discussion is proceeding, and a
further communication will be sent on this point.
